Clive Palmer’s Boat up for Auction at Runaway Bay Marina

Sanctuary Cove Boat Show

As the Gold Coast marine industry is still buzzing from another successful Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, there are many buyers still on the look for their dream vessel. On Sunday at Runaway Bay Marina, we had our own excitement with several of our marine auctioneers participating in a large marine auction.

With many boats being sold, there was one vessel in particular that sparked a particular interest amongst the bidders. This 98’ Horizon went under the hammer at the auction held at Runaway Bay Marina on Sunday. It was passed in with a highest bid of $2.1m. It is expected to sell this week with a few interested parties to negotiate terms with the current owner, Clive Palmer.

If you would like more information about this boat or any of the other marine auctions that take place at Runaway Bay Marina, please contact our Runaway Bay Marina management office today and we will be happy to assist and direct your enquiries.

Runaway Bay Marina at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has become one of the biggest events on Australia’s Marina calendar with local, interstate and international buyers and sellers flying in for the annual event.

boat show

Runaway Bay Marina has had a long-standing affiliation with the boat show due to our location on the southern end of the coast and also our many tenants who are in the industry through auction, manufacturing and selling. The marina is also a popular spot for people to park and catch the water taxi over to Sanctuary Cove for the event.

This year we were especially ‘close’ to the action with the Runaway Bay Marina providing berthing for a few large and impressive vessels, a 100’ Milcraft, 98’ Horizon and a 90’ Horizon. These vessels highlight the space and flexibility we have at Runaway Bay Marina for berthing vessels ranging in size and accommodating to both short term and long term berths.

Runaway Bay Marina staff burn some rubber!

The engines were revving and the competition was fierce as the crew from Runaway Bay Marina took to the tracks at Slideways Go Karting Gold Coast.  The venue was chosen for the teams 2016 Christmas party and the atmosphere was electric!

Not surprisingly our resident forklift driver, Marty who spends more time behind the wheel, took out pole position and the checkered flag.  Coming in a close second and third were Russell and then Luke from the Marina office.

The rest of us will be sticking to boats and water activities!

Thursday Night Roast at Kleins

The Thursday night roast at Kleins at the Runaway Bay Marina is becoming a bit of a weekly event for many of the locals in the area. If you walk into the Bar & Grill anytime from 5pm, the tables will be littered with ‘Reserved Seating’. Any time after that, you will be lucky to get a seat.

The popularity of the Thursday night roast is most definately due to the quality of food, the value for money and the friendly service. From couples to families, grandparents to students, the promise of a nice home-cooked meal appeals to everyone. Thursday nights are when the week is drawing to a close and the last thing most people feel like doing is cooking.

You may even get lucky and see the official Kleins mascot Gary behind the Grill! For bookings and more information, contact Kleins Coffee Bar and Grill.

Runaway Bay Marina will be there under Tasman Marinas and located at stand 137. There is a number of business’s from Runaway Bay Marina exhibiting this year, so make sure you pop in and say G’day!

The Re-Building of Pier A

Runaway Bay saw a lot of activity across the beginning of this year with Pier A being completely rebuilt from damage is sustained by ex-tropical cyclone Oswald on the last Australia Day long weekend.

Anyone who visited or worked at the Marina got front row seats of the process involved with the removal of the damaged pier and installation of the new pier, it was quite a sight to see!

In December last year we saw the pylons replaced with the remainder of the work being carried through February of 2014. The new pier is made from far superior product being foam encased by concrete for the floatation and a concrete deck all connected and held together by timber whalers. It will also have new services, pipes and cabling.

The new pier was the final stage of the rebuilding of the entire marina which commenced in 2006.

Fresh Prawns at Runaway Bay Marina

You can not get any better than ‘fresh’ when it comes to seafood and one of the best kept secrets amongst the locals is when Boe and his trawler dock at Pier A at the Runaway Bay Marina with his delicious  cargo of fresh prawns!

His supply can vary from medium king prawns, fresh and cooked green prawns, just depends what’s out in the ocean.

Runaway Bay Marina will post Boe’s scheduled trawler visits to the Marina on our Runaway Bay Marina Facebook page so make sure you follow us and you don’t miss out on some mouth-watering treats.

When you purchase your prawns, you can request to be on the SMS list to receive automatic notifications on when the trawler is  in town.

Now, where is that seafood sauce?

Is there a Doctor in the House?

Medical RescueRunaway Bay Marina always likes to support local organisations and just before Christmas the team from Medical Rescue paid the Marina a visit and we were very impressed with the services they offer.
Medical Rescue help people when people can’t get to help themselves out on the waterways – whether it be treating a 4 year old with second degree burns on Stradbroke Isl or assisting with a suspected broken arm from a jet- ski fall, these guys do a fantastic job and deserve all the support they can get for providing medical pre-hospital support and transport.
So make sure you drop into their Medical Rescue Facebook page and give this fantastic organisation a ‘Like’ (and give them a wave if you see them on the water as well)!
