Runaway Bay Marina - Clean Marina

On the Water

  • Ensure all rubbish and waste from your vessel is collected and recycled or disposed of correctly. Waste bins and recycling facilities are available on site. Please ask at the marina office for directions.
  • Only minor repairs such as painting, mechanical or electrical servicing which can be performed inside the vessel should be carried out on the water.
  • Do not transfer fuels by containers to fuel tanks within the marina complex or out on the Broadwater as it poses a high risk of fire and explosion as well as spillage into the water.
  • Do not discharge waste of any kind  into the water;
    Toilets on vessels should not to be used unless connected to a holding tank. Holding tanks can be emptied using our pump out facility at the fuel jetty - download the guide on this page for advice.

    Bilge water should first be passed through an oil filtration device or other control measure before it is pumped out to ensure no pollution, odour or sheen passes into the water. In line filters are available at the marina office.
  • Oil absorbent materials (bilge rats) can be placed in the bilges of vessels which soak up oil only and not water. These are also available from the marina office.
  • Do not de-foul or clean hulls below the waterline in the water. This should be carried out in a shipyard where the resulting waste can be properly disposed of.
  • When cleaning vessels, please respect current water restrictions and only use environmentally friendly biodegradable materials.

On Land - at the Shipyard and Around the Site

  • Prior to removing your vessel from the water, always isolate batteries or switch off bilge pumps to prevent the discharge of oily water onto the ground.
  •  Ensure all materials and wastewater from engine cleaning, servicing or maintenance work is contained and carefully disposed of so it does not fall on the ground or enter a storm water drain.
  •  Ensure all activities such as sanding, grinding, high pressure cleaning and painting do not pollute the water, ground or air with particles, dust, fumes or smells.
  • Be mindful of excess noise as it is also pollution. Noisy machinery and power tools may only be used between 0700 and 1800.
  •  Ensure that chemicals such as fuels, oils, solvents, cleaners and paints are correctly contained and handled to prevent spills and pollution of the ground and water.
